Cairns, QLD James Cook University Student Accomodation

ADCO delivered the design and construction of the student accommodation precinct for James Cook University (JCU) in Cairns.

JCU required a residential development which delivered a student experience, active living, quiet study/sleeping spaces, as well as meeting the design requirements for living in the tropics.

The Cairns development was a greenfield site, with design allowing for future expansion. The building provides 300 beds across seven storeys.

Twenty-five percent of the rooms are single occupancy apartments, with the remaining dwellings designed as six-bedroom communal living spaces, which include a shared lounge, kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms.

The ground floor internal landscape will be open to the public, with 24-hour accessibility. The student-exclusive recreation areas on other floors include communal lounges, study areas, a gymnasium, music rooms and roof terraces.
