Large Boab Tree Transplanted at Port Hedland Site

Our team at Port Hedland International Airport was pleased to assist with an important yet unusual job – transplanting a Boab tree estimated to be over a century old to a much safer location.

In order to continue with airport redevelopment construction, the longstanding tree was moved to the entrance of the new terminal where it can be better monitored by professional arborists and appreciated by the Port Hedland community and visitors alike

In a delicate process overseen by horticultural experts, the tree was excavated from the ground and then gently transported 130 metres across the site. This allows us to press ahead with in ground services, car parking and ground transport works.

Not much is known about the history of the tree, however it will be closely monitored for 12 months to ensure it thrives in its new home.
