Smoking ceremony marks start of northern QLD shopping centre job
ADCO is pleased to be builder of choice for the $20 million Gordonvale Shopping Centre project, located in the Cairns region.
On Wednesday, a Smoking Ceremony marked the beginning of construction on the project. Attendees took part in a traditional cleansing ceremony performed by Traditional Owners on Yidinji Country. Barachias Royee, son of Yidinji Aboriginal elder Uncle Frank, led the ceremony and delivered a ‘Welcome to Country’, and Gary ’Creeky’ Creek played the didgeridoo.
ADCO will undertake the full design and construct project featuring a Woolworths Supermarket, specialty retail shops, on-grade carparking, landscaping and roadworks.
The project will aim to achieve a 4-star Design and As Built Green Star Rating. A 300kW solar panel system will be installed on the roof to offset centre management electrical and mechanical costs.
We look forward to presenting our client Woolworths with a high-quality retail build upon completion in June 2022.
